A new one-woman show and comedy special written, co-directed, and performed by Lauren Vernea (The Hollywood Improv, The Laugh Factory, The Comedy Store), and co-directed by Emmy Nominated Actor Crystal Lee Brown premiering at the The Un-Erasable Solo Festival
LOS ANGELES, CA | August 26, 2026 — Creative Faith Media today announced the world premiere of God Has a Writer’s Room: And Other Secrets Black Jesus Told Me, a new one-woman show and comedy special written, co-directed, performed by comedian, writer, filmmaker, and podcaster Lauren Vernea and co-directed by Emmy Nominated Actor Crystal Lee Brown. The 70-minute, clean comedy, solo show will premiere with two performances on Thursday, September 17 and Friday, September 25, 2026. The run is part of the The Un-Erasable Solo Festival at the Willie Agee Playhouse in Inglewood, California.
LOGLINE:
When a struggling Black comedian in Los Angeles, the “off-brand Kelly Rowland,” hits rock bottom, she discovers that her chaotic life has been guided all along by a heavenly writers’ room. She embarks on a hilarious, heartfelt journey from feeling invisible… to being hired by the ultimate Showrunner.
Part stand-up, part musical, and part solo theater, God Has a Writer’s Room takes audiences behind the curtain of the heavenly writers’ room.
“This show is my personal story, a love letter to all of the beautiful Black girls who ever felt invisible. I hope you see that God has always seen you. We got music, we got comedy, and we got 40 characters,” said Vernea. “This isn’t your typical solo show. It’s a stand-up special and solo-play hybrid that bridges my decades of theater with my comedy background. I wrote this for anyone who’s ever felt lost chasing their dream, anyone who has questioned God, and anyone wondering what God might be doing when life goes left. It’s hilarious, irreverent, vulnerable, and deeply heartfelt.”
The production is co-directed by Emmy®-nominated actor Crystal Lee Brown, whose credits span television, film, and theater.
“I chose to direct Lauren in God Has a Writer’s Room because I was drawn to her personal journey of faith and what it means to truly trust God, especially when the path ahead isn’t clear,” said Brown. “I saw an opportunity to help her shape that testimony into a theatrical experience that feels honest, vulnerable, and impactful.”
A SHOW WITHIN A STORY
The September premiere is also the culmination of a fully documented creative process. Creative Faith Media has been capturing the making of God Has a Writer’s Room, from the search for a director through table reads, rehearsals, creative breakthroughs, and opening night. Audiences can follow the journey online at @laurenvernea, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the process of bringing the show to life.
Following its September premiere, God Has a Writer’s Room is being developed as a bookable touring production for theaters, churches, comedy clubs, colleges, and festivals nationwide. The production is also seeking media platforms, streamers, faith networks, and comedy partners interested in helping bring the show to a wider audience.
